These are titles of articles I jotted down from glancing at one prominent business news site for the month of August, 2016. Our “expert” forecasters continually remind us of the faults in our economy and the recession looming right around the corner.
I’ve written about negativity before. It’s pervasive. But I get it. Fear sells. These news articles are over 3-4 months old now. And well, our investments are still doing ok. In fact, at the time of this writing (November 2016), US equities are at all-time highs. It is comforting to follow-up and track “world/economy/stock market-coming-to-an-end” forecasts like these.
Sure, there will be short term blips in the stock markets. But in the long term, I am a firm believer of progress. Dave Chilton in The Wealthy Barber Returns wrote…“I’m always optimistic about the long term for a very simple reason: An incredible number of brilliant people all over the world are working on innovative ideas to better our lives.” And it’s true – if you ignore the anomalies (which is what most people focus on), the large majority of the world is made up of safe, beautiful places, populated by a large majority of good people, who work hard on a daily basis to improve their lives, their family’s lives, and the lives of others through their work.
